Award winning artist
Barbara Wolfe Gittleson was born an artist. She spent her childhood painting with her uncle, the renowned painter Charles S. Chapman, N.A. His tutelage and encouragement inspired her to study art in college. At the time, art schools were dominated by the teachings of abstract expressionism...a style that Barbara found difficult to relate to, so she chose to focus on pottery. 40 years of pottery led her to bonsai. She grows and trains the bonsai trees and makes pots specifically designed to enhance the trees. Her experience with bonsais opened her eyes to the bonsais that exist in abundance in her native Rocky Mountain landscape. This realization brought her full circle back to her first love, painting. Her images are contemplative and serene, while capturing the almost tactile feelings of the rocks and landscapes...much like her pottery.
